Transcript: Performance Enhancing Drugs Why do people take steroids What are steroids The dangers of performance enhancing drug use What God thinks about people who use steroids illegally Thesis Statement The desire is so strong for fame and fortune that some athletes will result to taking steroids to try and make themselves just as great as these athletes. Introduction Walter Patton, Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali were some of the greatest athletes in the world. These three athletes are perfect examples of how an individual can obtain the fame and fortune that comes with being great at a sport. So it is no mystery why those who play sports have a desire to want to be the best. The desire is so strong for some athletes that they will result to taking steroids to try and make themselves just as great as these athletes. Steroids enhances your muscles and make you perform better. But taking steroids to increase your athletic ability is illegal and in many cases can be deadly. There is much debate about whether taking sports enhancing drugs should be illegal or legal. Dedication Page I, Michael Howell would like to dedicate my thesis paper to parents because they would stay up with me all night doing homework. They encourage me to keep going and never give up. Why people take Steroids The life of an professional athlete can look very attractive. But this life is not an option for everyone that plays sports. There are some athletes that have the natural ability and there are some that cheat by taking performance enhancing drugs in order to make it to and in professional sports. It is shocking that someone would take such a great risk by taking steroids in order to become or maintain being a professional athlete, but according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention steroid use has increased in professional sports and has doubled in high school sports. More than 6 percent or as many as 1 million U.S. students, said they had taken steroids at least once. With so many athletes seeing steroids as an option to increase their chances of getting better at sports. One must be wondering how does taking steroids to increase athletic ability actually work. The effects of steroids Steroids are some times referred to as roids, hype, weight trainers or gym candy are similar a hormone in our body. Our body naturally produces steroids to support functions in the body to fight stress and promote growth and development. These steroids are called androgen. The most powerful androgen in our body is called testosterone. This androgen is mostly found in male bodies but female bodies produce small amounts. Androgen promotes masculine traits that guys develop during puberty, such as your voice getting deeper and the growth of your body hair. Testosterone can also affect how aggressive a person is. But some people use steroids pills, gels, creams or injections because they think they can improve there performance or the way they look. These are called anabolic steroids which are artificially made hormones or fake steroids. There are over 100 variations of anabolic steroids. Here is an example of an anabolic (artificially made)steroid to your left and an androgen (body produced) steroid to your right. Dangers of Steroids Fake steroids or anabolic steroids stimulate muscle tissue to grow and “bulk up” in response to training by mimicking the effect of naturally produced androgen. Anabolic steroids can remain in the body anywhere from a couple of days to about a year. Since anabolic steroids are a weaker form of androgen so they have to be taking in larger doses in order to get the result of bulking up muscle tissue. For example muscle builders. But has dangerous side effects which are listed below. premature balding or hair loss dizziness believing things that aren't true (delusion) extreme feelings of mistrust or fear (paranoia) nausea and vomiting high blood pressure that can damage the heart or blood vessels over time greater chance of injuring muscles and tendons jaundice or yellowing of the skin; liver damage urinary problems shortening of final adult height increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer What God thinks about steroids I Corinthians 6: 19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy who is in you, whom you have from God,and you are not your own. For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. Steroids will negatively effect your body, it will effect the way God meant for you body to be. He made you in his on image so why would you illegally want mess up the way God created you just to be good at something , I wouldn't. Conclusion Steroids are very deadly and should not be tampered with unless prescribed by a doctor. There if nothing wrong with having a goal but there are safer and better ways to succeed ,like eating healthy, or working out. Joining gym or getting a personal trainer is also another good idea. But you shouldn't be so desperate to be an all-star that

Transcript: PowToon is the undisputed king of “interesting.” If you really want to inspire your audience with a great pitch, story and emotional hooks, this is the way to go; PowToon allows you to present using animated characters and to introduce yourself or your product using “story telling” rather than “fact telling.” Best Powerpoint Alternative Preszentit is another PowerPoint look alike. Unlike Prezi, there is nothing groundbreaking here… but it does allow you to create impressive presentations without downloading any presentation software. It’s simplicity is brilliant. Prezentit’s strongest feature is it’s ‘transitions’ capability, so if you want killer bullet points that transition really well – you should really check it SlideRocket is an online presentation platform that lets users create, manage, share and measurepresentations. SlideRocket is provided via a SaaS model. The company was acquired by ClearSlide, a similar SaaS application, in March 2013. They are no longer offering independent signups, as the platform is being integrated into ClearSlide. Sometimes known as the zooming presentation tool, some people have actually complained that Prezi gave them motion sickness. Prezi is a bit much with all the flying objects and movements, but it’s the best tool for those who need to constantly jump from one part of their presentation to another. Keynote is only available as a software download for Mac users who won’t touch Microsoft PowerPoint if their life depended on it. It allows all the same functions as PowerPoint, but its’s just much easier to use. We love the potential that iCloud brings to Keynote but hate the iPad application.

Transcript: Chapter 1 1.1. Background of the study Campylobacter jejuni is a bacterium that behaves as a commensal in the chicken gut. Though this bacterium is a part of the natural flora of a flock’s body, it becomes pathogenic as it reaches its human host through ingestion of poultry products. Campylobacter jejuni can also be easily transmitted from one flock to another that therefore lead to a larger number of positive flocks capable of infecting humans. Several strategies have been applied to reduce Campylobacter count on poultry, including attempts to eliminate Campylobacter from the farms in order to help control shedding of Campylobacter before it is attained by humans (Zoete et al. 2007). Poultry feeds are given daily to chicken for growth and survival, along with this, it must be noted that one of the easiest way to be infected by bacteria is through ingestion of contaminated feeds. Therefore, examination on poultry feeds should be done in order to know if it causes an increased prevalence of these microorganisms. Development of resistance in zoonotic bacteria appears to be primarily driven by the utilization of antibiotics in contemporary intensive animal production for therapy and prevention of diseases (Pezzotti et al. 2002). Making use of antibiotics in the case of poultry, which is the major reservoir of Campylobacter jejuni, may possibly lead to the selection of resistant strains. There is a rising level of resistance to antibiotics among Campylobacter and was considered as an emerging public health problem in human bacterial illness (Rodrigo et al. 2005). Observing the drug resistance of these strains has developed into of prime significance and management of these species would yield a positive impact on the improvement of food safety (Mackiw et al. 2011). Campylobacter is regarded to be the major contributory pathogen of food borne gastrointestinal diseases around the world (Ganan et al. 2011). In fact, the reported cases of Campylobacter infection have a higher record than other food pathogens such as Salmonella, Shigella and Escherichia coli in many regions. Most common indications of the Campylobacter infection particularly Campylobacter jejuni comprises diarrhea which is often bloody, abdominal pain, and fever. A small percentage of chronic long-term complications are reactive arthritis and peripheral neuropathies, Guillain-Barré and Miller Fisher syndrome (Ansari-Lari et al. 2010). Transmission happens by ingestion of contaminated poultry products (Hariharan et al. 2008). The study will prospectively determine the prevalence of Campylobacter jejuni in commercial and recycled poultry feeds and investigate the multi-resistance antibiotic patterns of the isolates. 1.2. Theoretical Framework 1.3. Statement of the Problem This study will aim to detect Campylobacter jejuni in commercial and recycled poultry feeds and its antibiotic multi-resistance pattern. Specifically, it will aim to answer the following questions. 1.3.1. What is the prevalence of Campylobacter jejuni in recycled and commercial poultry feeds? 1.3.2. Is there a difference between the Campylobacter jejuni count isolated from commercial poultry feeds and recycled poultry feeds? 1.3.3. What is the prevalence of antibiotic multi-resistance Campylobacter jejuni in commercial and recycled poultry feeds? 1.4. Scope and Delimitations The study will focus on the prevalence of Campylobacter jejuni in commercial and recycled poultry feeds. Polymerase chain reaction will be used in order to detect the prevalence of Campylobacter in poultry feeds using a gene specific hipO of C. jejuni. It will also center on the occurrence of C. jejuni strains that are resistant to the commonly used nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, tetracycline and doxycycline employed for antibacterial action. Gel electrophoresis will be used for comparison. Disc diffusion assay will determine the antibiotic multi-resistance patterns of the Campylobacter jejuni isolates. Hence, other sources of C. jejuni like raw meat and feces are not part of the study as well as its resistance to other utilized antibiotic. 1.5. Significance of the Study Chapter 3 3 PREVALENCE OF Campylobacter jejuni IN COMMERCIAL AND RECYCLED POULTRY FEEDS AND ITS ANTIBIOTIC MULTI-RESISTANCE PATTERN Mae Kristine A.
